- Replace Old Windows – One of the biggest things you can do this summer to beat the Texas heat is to replace old windows. Energy-efficient windows are the best and can work exceptionally well when paired with room darkening shades and black out curtains to keep the heat out and the cool air in!
- Switch To LED Light bulbs – You’ll use up to 90% less energy every day and can save up to $80 over the bulb’s lifetime. Use that extra money to go out for some family fun in the sun! (Be sure to wear sunscreen!)
- Change Your AC Filter – For basic 1″-3″ air filters, manufacturers usually direct you to change them every 30-60 days. If you suffer from light to moderate allergies, you could upgrade the air filter or change them even more oftenHow often to change your air filters can also depend on the following:
- the type of air filter you are using
- the overall indoor air quality
- how many pets are in the home
- the number of people occupying the home, and
- the level of air pollution and construction around the home
- Add a cooling fan to your main living area – Use this fan in your main living area to spread the cooled air through your home without greatly increasing your power use. Also, be sure to turn off ceiling fans when you leave the house.
- Switch Up How You Cook – Instead of using your oven and heating up the house, step outside and use your grill!
